This event was planned to be a meeting point for the collectors, but in a very short time the festival has become a classic appointment

not only for the vintage and high-end guitar fans, but also for all those who consider themselves music lovers.

2009 will be the 18th edition of the festival and also the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, an event which became a legend

the day it was started. Some of its performers, who unfortunately passed away, have become the icons of that incredible era. This is the

reason why we have dedicated this edition's guitar to their memory. We have called it the "Woodcaster", a beautiful instrument based on

a real Fender Stratocaster '69 R.I., given us by Patrizia Bauer, owner of Casale Bauer Spa, official importer of Fender instruments since

the early 60s.

This instrument has been decorated by Renzo Pagliani, who made three samples. One of these jewels will be put in our Museum; the

second will enrich Patrizia's personal collection, whilst the third be drawn free of charge among those people who will attend the evening

concerts of the festival.

This raffle will take place on 3rd May, during the last evening concert.

This event  will run along three main streams:

  • Guitar exhibition and market, at the Town Hall (10.30 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.; entrance will be allowed until 5.00 p.m.), with qualified

  • national and international dealers and collectors;

  • warning: the exhibition will take place inside the town hall building only. Those who are interested in exhibiting their instruments

are kindly requested to contact me, via telephone or e-mail, in order to book a booth. Every visitor will be allowed to carry only

one instrument inside the town hall yard. No instrument can be brought inside the exhibitions areas.

  •

  • Clinics and workshops, at the medieval Black Friars Church (11.00 a.m. - 5.30 p.m.), held by outstanding guitarists (our special

  • guests and others);

  •

  • Evening concerts, at the Basket-ball Palace  (9.00 p.m.).

  •

Guests of "Soave 2009 Guitar Festival"

  •

  • Monte Montgomery, the most gifted and creative artist of the Texan musical scene, and surely one of the greatest artist

  • of the American panorama. This time he will be with us for the third time in a row, to make us enjoy his music. Monte will

  • present us his brand new CD "Monte Montgomery", a bunch of beautiful songs recorded "live in studio". After his presence

  • at the festival, Monday 4th May our friend will perform in Lonigo (Vicenza) at “Chitarre in teatro”, a charity concert

  • organized by the Lions Club of Lonigo, which will be held at the local Teatro Comunale (Booking: +39 0444 436367).

  • Frank Vignola and Stephen Bennett will perform with him in the same show. Wednesday 6th May Monte will play another

  • concert in Asiago (Vicenza). Within a few days I will let you know its details. If you had no chance to see Monte before, don't

  • miss him. He will definitely capture you! www.montemontgomery.com

  •

  • Frank Vignola, who will be with us for the second time, is one of the most incredible and versatile guitarists in the planet.

  • His career is amazing and full of co-operations with extraordinary musicians, such as the great and legendary Les Paul.

  • This year Frank will perform in trio, backed by Vinny Raniolo and Gary Mazzaroppi (please notice the Italian origin of their

  • surnames!). Last year, after his partecipation to the festival, on Tuesday 29th April, Frank performed an unforgettable

  • concert at the Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza, which has been audio and video recorded, and will be available in DVD very

  • soon! www.frankvignola.com

  •

  • Stephen Bennett, the king of the harp-guitar, and one of my (and Soave's) greatest friends! He is returning after a few

  • years of absence, due to his so many professional engagements and to a few health problems, which now are completely

  • solved. Stephen will perform on the harp-guitar, on the regular six string one and on his old National Duolian, from which

  • he can get incredible sounds and colours. Welcome home, dear Stephen! www.harpguitar.com

  •

  • Massimo Varini, who will be with us once again with his new acoustic project he presented last year. Therefore you will see

  • him playing a number of his own compositions, which will also feature the voice of Rossella Zanasi, a singer who has been

  • involved in this project from the beginning. So, don't be surprised to see Massimo on stage without his beloved solid body

  • guitars. I can assure you that he is worth anyway!

  •

  • Giovanni Palombo, one of the most outstanding guitarists in the Italian scene. His style is a beautiful balance of technique

  • and taste, in a mixture of jazz, folk, mediterranean melody, and classical memories. Giovanni has been teaching for many

  • years at the CIAC Music School in Rome. He has also been cooperating for a long time with CHITARRE magazine, writing

  • articles and music transcriptions. www.giovannipalombo.com

  •

  • Màrçio Rangel, from Brazil, started to study the guitar when he was 14 years old as an autodidact. A few years after he

  • dedicated himself to regular studies and got graduated at the Conservatory at the age of 24. He is left handed, but plays

  • the guitar turned upside-down, which means tuned as it had to be played by a right handed guitarist. This very personal

  • technique lets him get heavier bass and softer treble notes, and a different and original way to play the chords. I'm sure

  • that Marçio, who will do a clinic and perform in an evening concert, will be a nice suprise for everyone!

  •

  • Giovanni Ferro, from Verona, started to play the guitar when he was 12 years old. At the age of 14, when he met Enrico

  • Nuti and his father, he began to dedicate himself to the great North European folk music, studying artists like Dougie

  • Mc Lean, Allan Taylor, Dave Walters and others. He also approached jazz and bossa nova with a lot of passion, and

  • engaged himself as an arranger. Working on Marco Giacomazzi's music he won the "Cant'Autori" national award in 2002.

  • On 2005 he took part to “New Sound” contest in Sarzana, where he met the artists of Fingerpicking.net. At the festival

  • Giovanni will organize and manage the musical entertainment moments at the Town Hall yard, with this program:

  • Musicale Lizard of Padova, at the moment he is a teacher at the Treviso, Padova and Bologna branches of the MMI,

  • Moderm Music Institute, a new school founded Alessandro Stornello, a very good friend of our festival. Daniele has been

  • a coloumnist for scritto "Chitarre" magazine, and at the moment he co-operates with "Axe". He also has published a tutor

  • DVD, where he shows the 8 finger tapping technique. His first instrumental CD "Frenzy Of Ecstasy" will be available soon.

  •

  • Anita Camarella e Davide Facchini Duo, two old friends of the festival, who, singing and playing the old Italian Swing, made

  • us discover one side of our musical heritage, behind which we can find important social and political messages. They will

  • open the first evening concert with a mith: Raf Montrasio, the guitarist of the historical sextet of Renato Carosone, who will

  • celebrate his first 80th birthday with us in Soave! This time the duo will present a repertoir chosen from different projects,

  • which they are working on to recorded new CDs. They will also celebrate Raf's birthday playing at the medieval church, from

  • 10.30 to 12.00, with surprising guests! www.anitadavideduo.com

  •

  • Andrea Palazzo, a veteran of the festival, Andrea is appearing in Soave for the eighth time! Last year he couldn't be with us,

  • but now he is back to cover his historical role of starter of the clinics at the Medieval Church, continuing a tradition which has

  • gone on for so many years. Andrea has recently co-operated with Nino D'Angelo (Live Tour 2007), and at the moment is a

  • teacher at the Modern Music Institute of Napoli. www.andreapalazzo.com

  •

  • Walter Donatiello, like Andrea, is coming back after his absence of 2008. He will continue to play his role, being one of our

  • most appreciated teachers. Walter is the director of the CEMM of Bussero, a music school located in the outskirts of Milano,

  • and is one of our most respected jazz guitarists. he is also a good friend of Dodi Battaglia's of the Pooh, with whom he is

  • completing a multimedial job called "Il suono di Dodi Battaglia", about the technique and the musical language of the great

  • soloist of our most beloved pop group. www.walterdonatiello.com

and for the first time at the Soave Guitar Festival

  • Greg Koch, one of the most latented, creative and flamboyant guitarists it ever happened to me to see. After meeting Jimi

  • Hendrix's music Greg started playing the guitar at the age of 12. Later he devoted himself to the jazz guitar and studied

  • for three years at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. His musical maturity brought him to a national level as a

  • strong and talented musician. In 1989 he won the 1st prize at the Greg's Bluesbreaker Guitar Showdown, where he was

  • appreciated by the legendary bluesman Buddy Guy. Then he founded his own band "Greg Koch and The Tone Controls",

  • which, in a very short time, became one of the most famous groups in his region, winning five Wisconsin Area Music Awards

  • for Blues Artist of the Year, in '93, and from '95 to '98. Personally Greg won seven awards as Guitarist of the Year, in '92,

  • and from '94 to '99. Greg Koch, who will be in Soave with his new band, will amaze you too!

  •

  • The Bendy Pastorius Group, another big surprise, and once again from the United States. This trio is composed by the two

  • brothers John (guitar and voice) and Mike Bendy (bass), plus Julius Pastorius (drums), son of the unforgotten Jaco Pastorius,

  • the man who re-established the language of the electric bass. This incredible band, formed in July 2007 as a quartet, chose

  • to go on as a trio, creating a kind of music which explores whatever has rhythm and soul, kind of a gospel of funk, punk

  • jazz, rock and blues. John, Mike and Julius will carry you through an incredible experience!

  •

The first concert - Friday 1st May - will be opened by

  • Raf Montrasio, the never forgotten guitarist of the Renato Carosone's Sextet, a real living legend of the Italian pop music.

  • 2009 is a very important year for Raf, who will celebrate his first 80th Birthday with us! www.myspace.com/rafmontrasio

                                                                     Booking

Following our tradition of guest care, “Soave 2008” will offer its visitors an accurate booking service, giving a large selection of

options which include the visit to the guitar exhibition, the concerts, the clinics, hotel accomodation at special fares, and Friday

evening “gala dinner” with the special guests.

We'd like to give you a chance to enjoy an unforgettable weekend.

As usual, we made agreements with the best hotels in the area. These are: "Roxy Plaza" (in the center of the village, close to

the medieval walls), "Cangrande" (1.5 Km. far from the center, on the SS. 11, towards Verona), "Soave" (previously named "Hotel

Bologna", 2 Km. far from the center, on the SS. 11, towards Vicenza), "Bareta" (on the SS. 11, 6 Km. far from the center, towards Verona)

and "Relais Villabella", roughly 2 Km. south of Soave, passed SS. 11.

They all are very good and comfortable

The agreements we made allow us to give you the same prices for "Cangrande", "Bologna" and "Bareta". To book at "Roxy Plaza" and

"Relais Villabella" you need to pay a slight difference, as showed below.

The hotel accomodation includes "room + morning breakfast (buffet)".

Hereafter  you can find the list of the booking options.
